Go Organic for A Week

Australia’s Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) has
found eating an organic diet for a week can cut pesticide
exposure in adults by 89%. Lead investigator Dr Liza Oates says
“Conventional food production commonly uses organophosphate
pesticides, which are neurotoxins that act on the nervous system
of insects – and humans – by blocking an important enzyme.”

“Pesticide exposure in Australian adults is mainly through their
diets, but there are other sources of exposure, so we wanted to
find out the difference going organic could make.”

“Our results show that people who switch to eating mainly organic
food for just one week can dramatically reduce their exposure to
pesticides, demonstrating that an organic diet has a key role to
play in a precautionary approach to reducing pesticide exposure,

Oates said.

Are Organic Foods Better For You?

According to the NASAA Organic Certifier’s website, a growing body of evidence is
leading many researchers to the conclusion that foods produced organically are proving to be better for you. People are also becoming more aware of the potential health benefits of organic food. While further research is required to determine the underlying factors involved, a 2018 French study involving nearly 69,000 participants who reported on their dietary intake, concluded that a higher intake of
organic food was associated with a reduced risk of cancer of the breast, skin, prostrate, lymph and colon.

Other studies have found that organic foods are much higher in many compounds that in dietary intervention and epidemiological studies have been linked to a reduced risk of chronic diseases, including CVD and neurodegenerative diseases and certain cancers.

Australia’s largest organic group Australian Organic says a new study shows that consumers perceive products labeled as organic to be better for them, BECAUSE THEY ARE!

Australian Organic’s manager Holly Vyner said, “The fact that organics are better for us isn’t just a false belief in our heads. Ms Vyner said, “The Australian Organic Market Report 2012, commissioned by Australian Organic, found the number one perceived benefit of buying organic food is that it is chemical-free, followed by additive-free, environmentally friendly, hormone and antibiotic-free, and finally, has no GMOs.” She added the definition of organic was well understood internationally and Australia was fortunate to have some of the world’s most stringent organic standards.
